Last year's Chronicle took the formulaic found-footage idea, spun it on its axis, and gave the viewers a playfully entertaining live-action version of 1988's Akira. This reinvigorating entry to both the found-footage and the superhero genres was directed by newcomer Josh Trank, who is working his way up the superhero chain with his second directorial stint, by tackling the reboot of the much defamed Fantastic Four movies.

A week ago Joss Whedon hinted at what new additions to earth's mightiest heroes he would be including in the sequel. Whedon said that his first draft of the script contained "two of my favorite characters from the comic book, a brother/sister act".

After a batch or two of less than revealing set photos, the latest shots from Captain America: The Winter Soldier are far more illuminating, including our first look at Anthony Mackie's Falcon.

Director/writer of The Avengers. God-King to comic book fans. Bushy gingerbearded nerd-gent. One of these descriptions probably comes to mind when you think of Joss Whedon. Speaking at the Iron Man 3 premiere, he confirmed that he had just finished the first draft of his script for The Avengers 2. When asked if the success of the first film (which earned $1.5 billion worldwide) had any effect on his writing of the sequel, he replied: "I try not to think of it as topping 'The Avengers,' I try to think of this as its own movie."

The great superhero movie that everyone is anticipating this summer is Man of Steel. For Warner Bros this is an exceptionally important movie. The impending box office figures determine the direction they will be taking with their foray into a live action DC universe. Not only are they looking to create a new franchise of Superman movies, but they are also looking to create a Justice league that is strong enough to go head to head with Marvel's Avengers. So no pressure for Zack Snyder then! There is a lot riding on this reboot and if the trailer is anything to go by, we will not be disappointed. It promises an immensely epic journey and a great cast, especially with the scarily perfect bit of casting that is Henry Cavill as Superman.

Not only are Warner Bros looking forward to a hopefully successful Man of Steel as a sort of reassurance that they are on the right path, they are also looking to Snyder to helm the Justice League and, of course, any other Superman movies to come.

Kevin Feige, head of Marvel studios and franchise genius, has confirmed that Marvel has obtained the rights to Daredevil, formerly belonging to Fox. Many of you will remember the failed attempt at Daredevil by Fox in 2003. Fox tried to revive the character with David Slade (The Twilight Saga) at the helm as director, but he left a year later to work on Hannibal the TV series. After this blow was dealt to Fox they tried to get something off the ground as quickly as possible with The Grey's Joe Carnahan, but it didn't quite work out.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier charts Steve Rogers continued troubles in adjusting to the modern world, while a face from the past threatens to destroy everything. Being set in the here and now, naturally SHIELD are going to be involved. Namely, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury.

The Marvel sequel is currently filming and we have already seen one batch of revealing set photos. These images highlighted Cap's new costume and Black Widow's new hairstyle. Important stuff, I'm sure you will agree.
