I think it is time to declare a moratorium on Star Wars casting rumours until official confirmation comes in; as Carrie Fisher once again confounds the internet by telling a joke.

Is there some sporting event this summer that I have been blissfully unaware of? That's the only explanation I have for the early release of so many blockbuster films in the UK. Iron Man 3 was recently moved forward a day (already a full week ahead of the US release) and now Star Trek Into Darkness will be released a full week sooner.

We've heard a lot of buzz about the new Star Wars films, and there has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not the old cast members will return. Well, Carrie Fisher was talking to Palm Street Illustrated, and they got straight to the point.

After yesterday's inspired Capitol portraits of Effie Trinket and Caesar Flickerman, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire marketing continues with three new portraits.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire continues to promote itself in a refreshingly unconventional way, embracing the outlandish nature of this fictional universe that off-sets the gritty violence of the titular games. Previously we saw the garish, heavily photoshopped (though intentionally so) promotional posters for Katniss and Peeta's victory tour and today we have some indulgent portraits of some of the Capitol's upper crust.

District 9 director, Neill Blomkamp is currently applying the finishing touches to his eagerly anticipated second feature Elysium which opens in August. It has been nearly 4 years since District 9 arrived to commercial and critical success and yet the secretive director has still managed to keep the details of his latest film under wraps.

You may fault The Hunger Games for its lack of conflict, you may fault The Hunger Games for its use of shakycam, you may even fault The Hunger Games if you are a myopic Battle Royale fan.

I would not fault The Hunger Games for any of those things, I loved that movie, an aggressively political work of speculative fiction set in one of the most unique sci-fi universes in years. A more perfect distillation of the times we live in, I have yet to see in a genre film.

A new image has been released for Gavin Hood‘s Ender's Game this week, an adaptation of Orson Scott Card's novel of the same name.
