Back in 2009, Variety reported that Transformers 2 writer Ehren Kruger was developing a remake of David Cronenberg's seminal, prophetic classic Videodrome. The original film, which explores man's relationship and increasing reliance on technology and our readiness to embrace violence as a form of entertainment.

Variety's original scoop (which Deadline stole word for word the other day) claimed that Kruger's new take would "modernize the concept, infuse it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller."

Right.
