man of steel - official poster slice

In a remarkable U-turn on his previously stated opinions, legendary film composer Hans Zimmer, responsible for the music behind The Lion King, The Dark Knight and Gladiator, has signed on to provide the score for the Superman reboot Man Of Steel.

fifty shades

There’s a new craze sweeping the nation (granted, most of the female population, but nonetheless). Shops have sold out and it’s almost impossible to go anywhere without seeing people with it or hearing its name spoken.

Fifty Shades of Grey.

Ever watched a film and wondered why on earth it didn’t win an Oscar? Why a certain actor or actress gave the performance of a lifetime yet still didn’t receive the attention they deserved?  Why a script was so original and enjoyable, it’s an actual crime when the film was overlooked during the awards season?

We take a look at five of our most shocking award snubs in recent years...

Taken 2 - Top Slice

Taken surprised everyone. The modestly budgeted actioner was a box office smash and propelled prestige actor, Liam Neeson, into the action hall of fame. A sequel was inevitable.

Based on the international trailer for Taken 2, we are likely getting a lot more of the same, and that's probably no bad thing.

prunella

In this interview with Joe Utichi, Prunella Scales discusses what it was like working as a young actress with David Lean and Charles Laughton on this perennial comedy, showing at cinemas across the country on Tuesday, 26th June as part of Studiocanal's Made in Britain season.

What if we discovered that Jimi Hendrix or Elvis hadn’t died but were actually still alive and well and living their lives not knowing how loved and revered they had been for decades? It is such a musical fairy tale story that is told in Swedish first time feature length documentary director’s Malik Bendjelloul’s Searching for Sugar Man.

Maleficent - Set top slice

After the first (frankly stunning) official image of Angelina Jolie as Maleficent was released, it was inevitable that we’d be flooded with set pics. And here they are!

InkeepersThe cool and spooky The Innkeepers, directed by Ti West (House Of The Devil) and starring Sara Paxton, Pat Healy and Kelly McGillis, is available on DVD and Blu-ray on 25th June.

And we have three copies to give away.

After over one hundred years of service, The Yankee Pedlar Inn is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees - Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy)- are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England's most haunted hotels.

As the Inn’s final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage "ghost hunters" begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long unexplained history.

Hobson's Choice (1954) came at a transitional point in David Lean's illustrious career. The intimate but enduring masterpieces of his early period – Brief Encounter, the Dickens adaptations – were behind him, and he had yet to blossom into the director of those elegant Cinemascope epics such as The Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia for which he is still best known to the general public.

Pacific Rim - Idris Elba top slice

Pacific Rim is del Toro's sci-fi action epic, set in a world where giant monsters (called "kaiju") ravage the planet and the only line of defence is human-piloted giant robots. That noise you're hearing right now is every fanboy on the planet having an orgasm. It's a little awkward.
