The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Will Soon Be Playing With Fire

24 Jan

According to Sony this month, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire, is still moving forward, despite many believing that the franchise would not continue after the first film in a series of adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy didn’t do as well as expected.

The news follows Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal confirmation in November 201 that The Girl Who Played With Fire was definitely a go, and that it was planned to start filming late this year with a late-2013 release date targeted.

There has been a lot of speculation around the subject, but the Sony rep tells us that “development continues” on the sequel and Steven Zaillian is still working on the script as planned.

David Fincher hasn’t yet decided whether to continue with the franchise, however, so no director has yet attached themselves to the project, but according to Pascal, lead stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are both already signed up for the other two films.

Mara commented that, “I don’t feel finished with the character,” and continued, “I’m not ready to go back there yet, but I think by the time we start, I will be.”

Personally, I really hope that the franchise does continue. Whilst these Hollywood adaptations aren’t a necessity to the already brilliant Swedish-language adaptations, it would be nice to see the final two films without having to read any subtitles as well.
