Playing the character of Chip Hardy in upcoming offbeat comedy Sassy Pants, Osment has abandoned his winsome-young-whippersnapper-in-peril look for vests, cut-off jeans, pierced ears and a disarming emo haircut. The results can be seen here at about 1:17.
The film, which also stars Ashley Rickards, Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn and Napoleon Dynamite’s Diedrich Bader, looks like the kind of indie hipster-fest that could either break-out or disappear into internet streaming obscurity. Either way, it has a whiff of authenticity and might prove a successful stepping stone for the 23-year-old Osment to join the ranks of other A-list former child-actors, such as Christian Bale and Jodie Foster, both of whom took extended career breaks during their teenage years.
