Hobbit Trailer, Eight Years in the Waiting

21 Dec

The-Hobbit-poster-2

It is mere days away from Christmas, but who has time for that when epic trailers are popping up left, right and centre? First there was the Dark Knight Rises, with its croaky voice and Robin logo. And now the first trailer for the first part of the first (phew) adventure with a Baggins. There were times we thought it would never happen, as directors dropped off the project like the henchmen of Mordor. But on this cold December morn, a much-anticipated little trailer made its way into the world.

There is everything you could need to quench your thirst for Middle Earth; a secretive voice-over (“I told you the truth, I may not have told you all of it”), a nice introduction to the much younger Bilbo (Martin Freeman), a now-grey Gandalf (Ian McKellen) deep in thought, Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) with perfect hair, a baker’s dozen of dwarves, providing both the slapstick (Note: keep Bombur off the tables) and the shadowy foretelling of doom (“I cannot guarantee his safety”), all smothered in a glossy coat of haunting dwarf song.

And of course, what would Middle Earth be without the Ring of Power (we briefly see it sat in the dirt only a few Hobbit-feet from our hero), and its manic, murderous protector Gollum, who could not exist without Andy Serkis rocking the green bodysuit.

There’s still another year until the release date, so crack open the Longbottom weed and fetch in a round from The Green Dragon; it’s going to be a long wait.

Until then, you could just stare at the beautiful first poster. The trailer can be seen here.
