The story, inspired by the enduring ballet, sees a girl’s wooden toy soldier magically coming to life and taking her on a wondrous adventure.
With a script being written by Darren Lamke, who scribed Bryan Singer’s next film Jack the Giant Killer, as well as Shrek Forever After, this new take on the story will presumably play to Shankman’s knack for mixing big-name stars with high camp. Perhaps this will prove more of a family-friendly and successful fit than Andrey Konchalovskiy’s disastrous attempt at updating the tale in last year’s box-office catastrophe The Nutcracker in 3D.
