Activision off-shoot studio, Beenox, have released a brief glimpse into the concept artwork for the new Amazing Spider-Man game which will accompany the films release, due out next July. The studio is responsible for other recent Spider-Man games Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time, the former fairing very well in gamer reviews.

From the concept pictures, it looks like the game will be heavy on detail, with some fairly epic environments and locations - they have a semi-realistic comic book feel to them, which will hopefully be present in the finished product. It’s not been said how closely the game will follow the movie‘s storyline, but if these pictures are anything to go by, it could boast a fairly decent plot.

Directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer), The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield (Never Let Me Go, The Social Network) as Spidey aka. Peter Parker, The Help’s Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and funny (Welsh)man Rhys Ifans as The Lizard; also taking part are such great actors as Martin Sheen and Sally Field who will be playing Peter’s aunt and uncle, May and Ben Parker.

One thing I am particularly looking forward to is the parkour-style running and jumping element on the tops of buildings, which was shown in the recent trailer for the film. Here’s hoping they echo this in the game; if so, we could have a Mirror’s Edge style web-slinger on our hands!

Jess is a freelance writer and illustrator with a penchant for Nathan Fillion and a decent ‘chase’ thriller. Raised on a steady diet of popcorn, geek ephemera and The Matrix, she is classically trained in the way of the movie and counts Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Akira Kurosawa as her most admired auteurs. When she’s not watching films, she can be found working on her first novel and screenplay, doodling a new illustration under her artist name, Wildfire198, or writing for her own blog, Skwigly or for AnyForty magazine.
