Lost in The Multiplex

Joel Edgerton may be the man from Sparta or the man from U.N.C.L.E.

Joel Edgerton, one half of the excellent Warrior lead roles, has struggled to find major success at the box office (unlike his vastly inferior countryman, Sam Worthington) but that has not stopped Warner Bros from making two very high profile offers to the actor.

Vulture reports that the first offer is for the lead in 300: Battle of Artemisia, the sequel to the 2007 smash hit, where he would play Themosticles, the general who leads Greece to war against the Persian army. The sequel, formerly known as Xerxes, will be directed by Smart People director Noam Murro and is penned by Zack Snyder,

The second offer relates to Steven Soderbergh's The Man from U.N.C.L.E, to play the part of Illya Kuryakin, a Russian spy (originally played by David McCallum) who works with American agent Napoleon Solo (originally played by Robert Vaughn). Bradley Cooper is in talks to play the part of Solo but, according to Vulture, the decision is dependent on his approval of who they cast as Illya. Considering this man agreed to star in All About Steve, I cannot imagine he will turn his nose up to an actor of Edgerton's caliber.

Someone out there is intent on making Joel Edgerton a star and he certainly deserves it.

When he isn't writing for the prestigious site you currently find yourself reading, Andrew is busy either writing for EatSleepLiveFilm or posting pictures of dogs in hats on Facebook. He fell in love with movies after a double-bill of The Empire Strikes Back & Return of The Jedi at the tender age of four. His favourite film is Goodfellas, his favourite director is Martin Scorsese, his favourite actor is Paul Newman. Caught you off guard there, eh? You were expecting Robert De Niro or something.
