Dead Island To Make Big Screen Switch

Not wasting any time at all, Lionsgate have acquired the film rights for the newly released Dead Island computer game from game distributor Deep Silver. A viral trailer was released for the game in February and a huge buzz surrounded it until it was released in early September - when it proceeded to outsell every other game on the market.

The non-linear editing, beautiful soundtrack and graphics puts most film trailers to shame and it will be that and the popularity of the trailer online that have put dollar signs in Lionsgate’s eyes.

The game focuses on holiday-makers on a luxury island - their vacations are disrupted by an inconsiderate horde of zombies. Cut off on the island, the survivors only have what weapons they can find to rely on when battling the undead. The game has been released across the Xbox, Playstation and PC formats, so the fan base is already spread far and wide and even if only a half of the people who bought the game see the film, it's definitely going to make some coin.

No director is attached yet but producer Sean Daniel (The Mummy, Dazed and Confused) has been brought in, along with Stefan Sonnenfeld, who has worked with the likes of J.J. Abrams, Michael Bay and Gore Verbinski.
