Killer Joe, Average Poster

05 Sep

When Chris, a young drug dealer, has his stash stolen by his mother, he is forced to find $6,000 and fast. As a last resort, he and his father hire a dirty cop, called "Killer Joe", who will arrange to have Chris' mother killed to claim on her life insurance policy worth $50,000. Joe demands payment up front, but when they cannot come up with the money until after the job, he offers an alternative means of payment; Using Chris' attractive but emotionally disturbed sister, Dottie, as sexual collateral.

Killer Joe will be the first film from William Friedkin since the 2006 film Bug, which was a refreshing and atmospheric comeback for the legendary Exorcist director. Friedkin directs the screenplay by the Pulitzer and Tony winning playwright, Tracy Letts, and stars Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Thomas Haden Church and Gina Gershon.

I have read the script and it's a strange and sinister neo noir which, if handled right, could really take people by surprise. The role of Killer Joe is definitely a new one for McConaughey, I would recommend putting this one on your radar.

Coming Soon have the first poster which won't blow any minds, but it is a nice reminder that the film is finally coming out.

When he isn't writing for the prestigious site you currently find yourself reading, Andrew is busy either writing for EatSleepLiveFilm or posting pictures of dogs in hats on Facebook. He fell in love with movies after a double-bill of The Empire Strikes Back & Return of The Jedi at the tender age of four. His favourite film is Goodfellas, his favourite director is Martin Scorsese, his favourite actor is Paul Newman. Caught you off guard there, eh? You were expecting Robert De Niro or something.
