Looks like some Hollywood directors do care!

Recently a story was posted about Dan, a Star Trek fan who had been diagnosed with 2 types of cancer. Dan hoped to see the prologue for Star Trek Into Darkness, playing before The Hobbit. His family managed to get him out of hospital for a screening but, sadly, it didn’t play and to make matters worse his doctors told him he only a few weeks to live.

News of his plight was posted online and the story started spreading. Star Trek Director J.J. Abrams soon caught wind of the story and decided to screen the unfinished film for Dan and his wife. She posted online about the film below and as you can see it looks like it gave the couple some much needed happiness.

"Hi everyone, it's Daniel's wife, we are of course sworn to secrecy, BUT we are officially allowed to say we saw it and we enjoyed it IMMENSELY as a film and as a gesture...We were so touched when [Abrams] was concerned that we wouldn't 100% enjoy the screening as it's still being worked on....... Be assured we enjoyed it 110%! This is a story of us giving something to him, the 'internet' community giving something to him and ultimately being a heartwarming gift to our friends, family and so many others. This story of us (and of course JJAbrams & Bad Robot) being able to give this surprise gift of a screening to a huge movie buff like Daniel, especially a film made by a film maker who obviously makes movies with such care, with a fan like Daniel in mind."

It’s always great to hear these kind of stories and being able to totally immerse yourself in a film for a couple of hours is something magical that Dan must of loved. Good work, J.J.

Alex had a difficult start to his long-standing love affair with film and still remembers the repeated times his brother locked him outside in the dark after showing him American Werewolf in London. But those fictional characters that didn’t kill him certainly made his love of all things film stronger and the kiwi-expat has developed an eclectic taste for Martial Arts, Horror, strange Asian cinema and pretty much everything in between.
