With Christopher Eccleston signed on to play Malekith the Accursed, it is presumed he will be the main antagonist as he is the leader of ancient race against whom Thor (the returning Chris Hemsworth) must battle to save the universe. Yet, with Tom Hiddleston's inclusion in the cast, there are also some unresolved issues for the God of Mischief to be explored in the sequel.
Loki finished Avengers Assemble gagged and bound, heading back to Asgard with Thor so his role in the The Dark World isn't exactly clear just yet. If set reports from Icelandic website Visir are anything to go by, Loki doesn't stay shackled for long and embarks on a big battle with his hammer-loving brother from another mother.
Hiddleston confirmed his presence in Iceland via his Twitter account and Visir reports that a scene had been filmed with 'about 500 people' that involved 'a big fight scene between Thor and Loki'. Whilst we had brief battles between the pair in Thor and Avengers, there hasn't yet been a monumental clash so it would be great to see Hiddleston and Hemsworth go toe-to-toe.
Thor: The Dark World will also star Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, Ray Stevenson,, Zachary Levi (in to replace the departing Josh Dallas) Rene Russo, Jaimie Alexander and Anthony Hopkins and is set for release on November 8, 2013.
