Following the success of their Broadway musical The Book Of Mormon, which garnered an amazing nine Tony's last year, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have suggested they would be interested in adapting the stage show into a film. But don't expect a release any time soon - the creators of South Park have said it'll be several years before they film anything.
Given how rocky the road to successful adaptation can be, and how ubiquitous this type of cross-formatting has become, Parker and Stone may do well to bide their time. Indeed, given how self-aware the Team America guys seem to be, it's probably wise to get a bit of distance between their project and the likes of Mamma Mia (a dreadful but bafflingly successful band-to-stage-to-screen adap), Hairspray (an okay film-to-stage musical-to-film musical) or even War Horse (a book-to-play-to-film with mixed reactions).
Either way, you can trust Trey and Matt to do right by their project, and we can rest assured: when it does come out, it will be brilliant.
Besides, they've still got South Park to make, and that remains one of the funniest, most erudite and coruscating shows on telly after almost two decades. It's a wonder they have any time - or jokes - left.
