Based on these set pics for the Thor sequel, hiring Game of Thrones vet Alan Taylor to direct was the best decision the franchise has made since casting Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. Naturally he has experience working with ensembles (essential) but he has a lot of experience working with elaborate combat scenes and making sets and props look weighty and authentic. After the excessively shiny, CG-reliant production design of the last movie it's great to see some actual dirt, some sign that there is a world that exists beyond Odin's palace.
As always, click to enlarge.
These pics don't offer a lot of information and, sorry ladies and so-inclined gents, there's no sign of Hemsworth or Hiddleston, but based on the architecture on display, I would hazard a guess that this is an Asgardian village besieged by Dark Elves.
Former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston was recently confirmed to play Malkieth, King of the Dark Elves, so if these set pics are indeed showing a Dark Elf attack then we may have a vague idea of Eccleston's character design.
If on-set security remains as lax as it is here, you may well see more from this Bourne Wood shoot, including a possible appearance by the Thunder God himself.
EDIT - It turns out, he already has! A new series of set pics have emerged which show Chris Hemsworth's Thor (and his stunt double) showing up to save the day and hammer a few beasties into submission.
