An Intense (And Very Shaky) Red-Band Trailer for Cop Thriller End of Watch

18 Aug

End of Watch - Gyllenhaal Top Slice

End of Watch has thoroughly grabbed my attention, since the first visually dynamic trailer. The bloodier, more intense red-band trailer only tightens the grip.

The story of two loyal LAPD beat cops who inadvertently put themselves in the crosshairs of a Mexican Cartel from the writer of Training Day is bound to be a nerve-shredding experience and the new trailer lends further support that notion.

The visual style intrigues me. At times it appears to be found footage and others it has an excess of POV shots and dizzying shaky cam action scenes - it feels like a visual assault, throwing you headlong into absolute chaos, and that excites me.

A lot of action directors struggle to reconcile content with style, this looks like the wild and unpredictable use of camera angles could be backing up an equally wild and unpredictable story.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena star, David Ayers writes/directs. End of Watch will be released November 23rd.

When he isn't writing for the prestigious site you currently find yourself reading, Andrew is busy either writing for EatSleepLiveFilm or posting pictures of dogs in hats on Facebook. He fell in love with movies after a double-bill of The Empire Strikes Back & Return of The Jedi at the tender age of four. His favourite film is Goodfellas, his favourite director is Martin Scorsese, his favourite actor is Paul Newman. Caught you off guard there, eh? You were expecting Robert De Niro or something.
