Seemingly sacrificing continuity for turnaround, Lionsgate are painfully aware that aiming to release the films in 2014 and 2015 respectively after the 2013 release of Catching Fire is a punishing schedule for anyone. As such, they are already looking for a replacement to Francis Lawrence, who is set to shoot Catching Fire in the autumn.
It’s not a new thing for franchises like this to change directors, but neither is it always a good thing. Whilst the Harry Potter franchise managed to maintain its freshness due to regular directorial upheavals, the Twilight Saga has suffered from insane shifts in tone as different directors struggled to find their feet and balance the saccharine romance of the book with the gothic fantasy that a wider cinema audience calls for.
Meanwhile, Catching Fire has recently added several new names to its cast, including Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amanda Plummer. It will be released in UK cinemas in November 2013.Source: HitFix
