Lost writer Drew Goddard steps up on World War Z re-writes

World War Z

In not-too-shocking news the trouble-strewn adaptation of Max Brooks' undead chronicle World War Z continues to prove problematic. The film is currently in limbo awaiting months of (still to be scheduled) re-shoots and the unattractive task of re-writing the later scenes has been passed to Lost writer Andrew Goddard.

The patch job was initially in the hands of second Lost writer, Damon Lindelhof. Goddard had already been involved in the re-writes alongside his TV colleague but with Lindelhof unable to finish the work, the job has now passed to Goddard alone. The genre writer recently co-wrote the popular Cabin in the Woods with Joss Whedon and adapted Robopocalypse for Steven Spielberg.

Usual Suspects scribe Christopher McQuarrie is in the frame, especially after adaptating the Lee Child novel, “One Shot” (which became Jack Reacher) into a vehicle for Tom Cruise. However, McQuarrie is working on All You Need is Kill, which also stars Cruise, and second a X-Man outing for The Wolverine. And then there’s a Top Gun sequel - he’s got that to do, too.

Director Marc Forster remains in place for the reshoots. Eventually...

Her favourite film is arguably Happiness by Todd Solondz, South Korea seems to innately know how to please her with their cinematic output and she denounces fanboys preferring some objectivity to genre film opinions. She spends her time defending and lamenting horror, worshipping John Waters, hunting down controversial and banned titles. She also likes Driving Miss Daisy without irony.
