It's On The Grid (backed by Blue Sky Disney) is saying that Uncle Walt's studio will develop Big Hero 6 as an animated feature with Don Hall at the helm. Hall directed last year's well received if subtle Winnie The Pooh and has also worked on The Princess and the Frog, Meet the Robinsons and The Emperor’s New Clothes.
Big Hero 6 is a team of Japan-based superheroes created in 1998 and initially populated by Silver Samurai, Sunfire, GoGo Tomago, Honey Lemon and others. Rumours continue that Silver Samurai and a certain Adamantium-clawed X-Man set will be crossing paths in Japan next year, and so it is uncertain how closely Disney will stick to the source material and which characters will be lost during development.
It continues to be a busy time for Marvel properties with Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, further Avengers antics, Wolverine playing with samurai, the will-they-won't-they of the Black Panther and the confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy film for 2014. This all reeks of mighty ambition so expect dates to shift, some projects to overtake others and the odd one to be pushed aside in the melee.
