Artist Ryan Meinerding has called the piece “Caged” and it shows Stark seemingly only partially wearing his iconic armour, meaning that the seemingly invulnerable has been turned very vulnerable indeed.

With the “Extremis” arc of the Marvel comics apparently featuring as the main thrust of the narrative and Ben Kingsley all but confirmed to be playing villain The Mandarin, this is shaping up to be a very interesting sequel to one of Marvel’s best superhero franchises.
It remains to be seen how the series will deal with the loss of Jon Favreau in the director’s chair, but the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang dream team of star Robert Downey Jr and director Shane Black should do well to allay fans’ concerns.
Iron Man 3 is set to be released in the UK on May 3rd 2013.
