During a week where half the internet has decided to retroactively hate Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies (as it's clearly impossible to like more than one thing at a time), Walt Disney Pictures has released the first poster for the Evil Dead auteur's take on L. Frank Baum’s Oz, specifically the untold origins of The Wizard Of...

The official synopsis is as follows:
"When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot--fame and fortune are his for the taking--that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity--and even a bit of wizardry--Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well."
The fresh take on Oz will be directed by Raimi, best known for helping kick-start the now unstoppable superhero movie trend with the Spider-Man trilogy, and the movie can only benefit from his highly energetic style and unique tonal balance of the fantastical and the mundane.
However, it's not all good news. The film is also produced by Joe Roth, the man partially responsible for the double-edged shitshow of revisionist fairy tales, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and this year's Snore White and the Huntsman.
Hopefully Raimi's talents can fend off Roth's flying monkeys of mediocrity and give audiences another magical visit to Oz.
