Speaking in character, Coogan confirmed that the film is to begin principal photography in January, aiming for an August 2013 release, adding that the collaboration with French company StudioCanal is "the greatest Anglo-French co-operation since the Normandy landings."
The movie has been rumoured for a long time and many ideas have been floated, such as Alan travelling the world or dealing with an al-Qaeda siege. But in a recent interview, writer Armando Iannucci confirmed that the film would be a more traditional Partridge tale.
"Alan is in Norwich," he said. “It's not Alan goes to Hollywood [or] Alan invaded by aliens.”
Timing for the movie makes sense as the character recently returned to television screens on Sky Atlantic and an autobiography, written by Coogan in character, was released last year.
It’s difficult to see how this can be anything less than a massive hit, so roll on August 16th 2013.
