Hotel Transylvania tells the story of a high-end resort run by Dracula (Adam Sandler) in order to provide a safe haven for monsters and protect his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) from humans. However, when tourist Jonathan (Andy Samberg) stumbles upon the resort and begins to fall for Mavis, Dracula’s world threatens to crumble around him.
The voice cast also includes Steve Buscemi, Kevin James and Cee-Lo Green.
Unusually for a film featuring Adam Sandler, this appears to be actually funny with more laughs in the trailer alone than in Sandler’s last three or four films combined. Maybe it’s because the focus here is not on him but is on the wonderful monsters that roam around his castle and the relationship between Mavis and Jonathan. It’s nice to see The Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg breaking into movies and it seems that Selena Gomez is a lot less annoying when she’s not dangling off the arm of Justin Bieber.
With excitement building, it seems like the stakes are high (sorry) for Hotel Transylvania to be one of the best animated comedies of the year.
Hotel Transylvania is released in the UK on October 12th 2013.
