LitM celebrates The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Feature

Christopher Nolan brings his triumphant Batman trilogy to a close with next month's release of The Dark Knight Rises. The series has given superhero movies a shot in the arm, showing that the medium is adult and mature enough to sustain serious, realistic storytelling while simultaneously bagging monstrous box office returns. It will come as no surprise to anyone that we are very big fans of Nolan's work at Lost in the Multiplex and, in order to celebrate the conclusion of arguably the most successful superhero franchise ever, we are going to be running a lot - and I mean a lot - of coverage.

Over the course of the next month our writers will be going Batman crazy. We'll have articles on our favourite Batman comics, and how they might be adapted for the screen. We will look at Batman's menagerie of villains, with a focus on those who haven't yet been immortalised on celluloid. We will mount a brave defence of Robin, and compare Bruce Wayne to Tony Stark in a battle of the superpowered billionaires. We'll pay special attention to the Bat's arch enemy, the almost peerless Joker, and look at the actors who have brought his distinct brand of madness to the screen. There will be a special edition of Keeping Score, with Charlie looking at the various OSTs through the years. And, finally, we will review every Batman film, from his '66 debt to the glistening, high tech The Dark Knight and, of course, The Dark Knight Rises itself.

It's the most ambitious piece of work that we've ever attempted, and we hope you enjoy reading it as much as we have enjoyed writing it.

Check back on 25 June for the first piece in the series - a review of Batman (1966).

He’s worked in the industry since the turn of the century, has a black book of contacts worth killing for, and isn’t afraid to give duff films both barrels. Harrison Ford called him ‘that little shit’ and he once trod on Johnny Depp’s foot. That’s just how he rolls.
