New gag-filled trailer for aliens in suburbia comedy The Watch

 the watch - top slice

A very funny new trailer has been released for Hollywood sci-fi comedy The Watch, starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Britain’s very own Richard Ayoade on top form.

The Watch (originally titled Neighborhood Watch, as if to infuriate us Brits who like to acknowledge the existence of the letter U) features Ben Stiller as Evan; a suburban loner who creates multiple clubs in order to feel as if he has friends. One such club being the neighbourhood watch initiative. Here, Stiller bands together with Bob (Vaughn), Franklin (Hill) and Jamarcus (Ayoade), as the guys form a pseudo-neighbourhood watch team to escape from their families.

However, things soon go awry when an alien invasion threatens to destroy the world and Stiller’s team is forced to take action.

Whilst previous marketing material for the film has been very hit-and-miss, this trailer showcases what has the potential to be a very funny film. We are introduced to all the main characters and get a good look at the film: both laugh-out-loud comedy elements and the looming alien threat. The Watch is not a film that’s hiding its nature as a genre hybrid.

Hopefully this isn’t a case of the classic marketing boo-boo of putting every decent gag in the trailer because, at the moment, The Watch has Comedy Of The Summer written all over it.
