Animal Rescue For Limitless Director, Neil Burger Plans Dennis Lehane Adaptation

Neil Burger directs

Neil Burger, director of Bradley Cooper thriller Limitless, has signed on to direct an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s short story Animal Rescue.

Burger, currently working on an adaptation of the Playstation 3 game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, will follow one literary adaptation with another after Limitless did far better at the box office than anyone would’ve expected, despite its starry cast.

Animal Rescue is not the first of Lehane’s stories to reach the big screen with his work inspiring the films Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River and the Leonardo DiCaprio confuzzler Shutter Island. In a break from tradition, Lehane has adapted the screenplay himself about a killing that results from a lost and contested pit bull.

Peter Chernin and Mike Larocca are attached to produce, but with multiple films in the pipeline, it could be a while before Burger’s schedule empties enough to usher Animal Rescue into cinemas.
