Despite the fact that there weren’t many characters left alive at the bloody climax of Bekmambetov’s brutally ridiculous movie, it seems that the long-in-gestation second journey into the world of Wesley Gibson may soon become a reality.
"We didn't know what to do for three or four years. Three weeks ago I came up with a great idea and I pitched this idea and everybody fell in love with it. And now I think we're on track," said Bekmambetov to The Playlist.
Bekmambetov also confirmed that the sequel will continue the adventures of Wesley Gibson, although it is unclear whether James McAvoy will reprise the role. Adding that "other people are dead, you know, we can't bring them back," Bekmambetov seems to rule out a return for Angelina Jolie’s ass-kicking assassin whose bullet-curving suicide was one of Wanted’s most dramatic moments.
It seems that Bekmambetov is keen to tease fans as much as possible, keeping tight-lipped on the film’s plot, save for one intriguing remark.
"The story is the same character, same mythology, but it's got a great twist."
