Hugh Laurie Could Benefit From Prime Directive 4 in RoboCop Remake

robocop remake - hugh laurie villain

If you get the reference being made in the title: You are my people. To clarify for everyone else: Hugh Laurie is in talks to play the villain in Elite Squad director Jose Padilha's RoboCop remake.

This would see Hugh Laurie play the role of the corrupt CEO of Omnicorp, the company responsible for building RoboCop. In the Paul Verhoeven original, this role was courtesy of Ronny Cox as Dick Jones, the Vice President of OCP. Laurie is a great actor but can he match the sleaze and menace of Cox? This remains to be seen.

If cast, Laurie will join The Killing's Joel Kinnaman as Alex Murphy/RoboCop and recent casting coups like Gary Oldman (cast as RoboCop's creator) and Samuel L. Jackson (as an influential media mogul). Sucker Punch star Abbie Cornish is said to be in talks to join the now star-studded remake, in the role of the widowed Mrs. Murphy.

RoboCop is aiming for a US release date of August 9th 2013.

His favourite film is Goodfellas, his favourite director is Martin Scorsese, his favourite actor is Paul Newman. Caught you off guard there, eh? You were expecting Robert De Niro or something.
