The Canyons is a thriller about five twenty-somethings' quest for power, love, sex and success in modern-day Hollywood. So, basically it sounds like the sort of scathing commentary, splashed with some violence, that both Schrader and Ellis could use to build sandwiches. I'm saying it's their bread and butter.
The film was given a "kickstart" after a successful online fundraising campaign and is now ready to begin production with Schrader (writer of Taxi Driver, director of Affliction) set to direct the original screenplay by Ellis (American Psycho).
Ellis tweeted the news of the casting, also confirming the project rolls in a months time:
"And I am beyond thrilled that James Deen and Lindsay Lohan will be playing the parts of Christian and Tara in THE CANYONS by BEE."
"Shooting THE CANYONS starring James Deen and Lindsay Lohan: July 9-31 in L.A. Could not have dreamed of a better cast. Lindsay nailed it..."
Deen, a popular figure in the porn industry, has appeared in 896 features (as per IMDb, which does not account for online clips, so his resume is probably in the 1000s by now) and a regular fixture in the currently booming porn parody trend. Writer Ellis has long-championed long-Deen for The Canyons' lead.
Lohan, meanwhile, is currently mid-production on Liz & Dick, a TV movie where she will metaphorically urinate on the grave of Elizabeth Taylor. We hope metaphorically.
