If you are into gaming in any way, you’ll more than likely have come across the Mass Effect series. Now into its third epic title, the sci-fi universe has brought much attention to itself in the last few months, from both positive and negative press.

Despite this, it still remains a hugely popular title and is gaining in its fan base at lightning speed; so much so, they have decided to release an anime as part of its ever-expanding universe. I myself am a huge (HUGE) Mass Effect fan and cannot wait for it to grace our screens.

This installment in the Mass Effect franchise will focus on James Vega, one of the key crew members of the Normandy from the third game in the series. Following on from Mass Effect 3’s success, the anime will focus mainly on Vega’s early military career prior to meeting Commander Shepard, something that was briefly hinted at through in-game dialogue.

Leading an Alliance SpecOps team against the Collectors, a mutilated race of aliens who are abducting entire human colonies for purposes unknown, Vega and the Delta Squad must protect the inhabitants of a remote planet, keeping the invaders at bay.

The project is being brought to life by Production I.G., the Japanese anime studio responsible for Ghost in the Shell, the anime sequence in Kill Bill Vol. 1 and one of the films from The Animatrix. This is the second venture into animated film territory for BioWare, having recently put out their first anime for the Dragon Age games.

Mass Effect: Paragon Lost is due for release in the autumn. Check out the teaser below and more artwork from the anime over on the film’s official website.
