Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley, former MTV executives, are developing the project through their own production company and are currently searching for a writer to script a pilot episode. At this stage, it's unclear whether the original creators of the Scream films, scriptwriter Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven, will have any input on the television series.
While MTV has recently found success with another film-to-television show, Teen Wolf, I can't be alone in wondering how they'll pull off transferring the Scream format to the small screen. The only way I can think of that could perhaps be successful is if they adopted the format from the fantastic Harper's Island, in which 25 people were picked off one-by-one until the killer was revealed.
And then there's the issue of if and how the television series will tie into the four films, because surely they're running out of members of the Loomis and Prescott families by now?
