Aaron Johnson, in particular, was the subject of some doubt. He is starring in Oliver Stone’s Savages and there was concern that his plate would be too full to return to the green leotard and get his lunch handed to him again. In a sign – perhaps – of the lack of confidence in the first film, none of the original cast were required to sign sequel clauses. That has meant that new deals have had to be hammered out with them all and some of them – Johnson and Chloe Moretz, in particular – have gone on to bigger and better things since. I suspect someone in the legal department has been canned following that expensive little snafu.
The word is that Johnson and Moretz are just about ready to sign, and that Chris Mintz-Plasse is also ready to go. Perhaps more surprisingly, given what happened to Big Daddy, is that Nic Cage is also rumoured to be ready to sign on for what you would expect to be some sort of flashback cameo.
The first film cost $28m and grossed over $100m, so it’s hardly a surprise that they are getting the gang back together. The only missing links will be Vaughn and Jane Goldman, which means that’s a lot of weight on Wadlow’s shoulders, especially if – as I’m hearing – Universal are looking to turn Kick Ass into a franchise.
