Lost in The Multiplex

There Is No Substitute For The Imposter Trailer

04 Jun

Nicholas Barclay was 13 years old when he disappeared on the 13th of June, 1994. Three years of agony and confusion pass the Barclay family by, until 1997, when the Barclays were told Nicholas had been found. In Spain.

Reunited with Nicholas, the family are initially relieved but they soon notice the cracks in this happy ending. Nicholas' eyes were now a different colour and he spoke with a clear French accent. It becomes clear that the person living under their roof is not all he seemed.

The Imposter PosterThis is the premise of The Imposter, a new documentary that has screened at Sundance, SXSW and is due to play Edinburgh Film Festival on the 22nd and 30th of June.

The true crime genre is one of the more compelling subsets of the documentary. It's certainly my favourite and one of the more prone to narrative storytelling, The Imposter looks to be a fine example of that, with its mix of stylishly shot re-enactments and probing interviews. I can't wait to finally see it.

When he isn't writing for the prestigious site you currently find yourself reading, Andrew is busy either writing for EatSleepLiveFilm or posting pictures of dogs in hats on Facebook. He fell in love with movies after a double-bill of The Empire Strikes Back & Return of The Jedi at the tender age of four. His favourite film is Goodfellas, his favourite director is Martin Scorsese, his favourite actor is Paul Newman. Caught you off guard there, eh? You were expecting Robert De Niro or something.
