Lost in The Multiplex

Frankenweenie Poster Features Zombie Dog and Revived Ideas

01 Jun

The first poster has been released for Frankenweenie, and I am frankly worried for Tim Burton’s mental health. Either the poor man is undergoing a mid-life crisis, or he has actually been listening to his critics.

At first glance, the poster is classic Burton; goggle-eyed, lanky characters in a sea of grey. But soon you will notice something is amiss.

frankenweenie movie posterWhere the hell is Johnny Depp? And Helena? Are they hiding the tree, ready to jump at us with eyeliner and backcombed hair?!

No, they’re not in it. Not at all. Not even as cameos. Worried yet? Because it gets worse…

The plot of this film is (almost) original. It is NOT a half-arsed remake of somebody else’s material, wrapped as new with stripes and CGI.

Instead, it is a feature-length remake of a stop-motion short film Burton made in 1984. It tells the story of young Victor’s desperate (and successful) attempts to revive his beloved dog Sparky after the poor beast gets friendly with a car tire.

Frankenweenie is due for release October 5th, starring Martin Short, Winona Ryder and Charlie Tahan as Victor.
