Bleeding Cool have information they are very confident about, that the villain (or A villain) for Thor 2 will be The Enchantress.
Who is The Enchantress? She is an Asgardian who goes by the name of Amora, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Journey Into Mystery #103, whose beauty and powers of seduction are only matched by her cruelty and mastery of dark magic.
Her first appearance involves Loki, having manipulated Odin (as he was wont to do) into sending The Enchantress to lure Thor away from Jane Foster, who Odin feared was proving a distraction for his future heir. I imagine this aspect will be changed since even a man as old as Odin would never be senile enough to listen to a word Loki says, now that he's an outed traitor and war criminal.
Odin's plan was to simply have The Enchantress seduce Thor but, being an agent of Loki and completely evil, she decides a better option would be to have Foster killed. To do this, The Enchantress recruits The Executioner, a powerful Asgardian warrior who is resoundingly 'whipped' by The Enchantress and willing to kill just about anyone to impress her.
The Executioner comes armed with an axe so sharp it can slice through space itself, which he can use to teleport or even summon elements from other parts of the universe (their first fight involves him blasting Thor in the icy winds of the Frost Giant home world, so the cinematic potential for this character is high). If the presence of The Enchantress is true, given their unhealthy relationship and strong ties in the source material, I would bet good money on The Executioner joining the fray.
The Enchantress can be every bit as cunning and psychological as Loki but neither character is a real physical match for Thor, which is where this axe-swinging Friend Zone occupant would come into the equation.
There are more recent versions of the characters but, despite a few cosmetic differences, the Marvel movies have tried to stick close to the spirit and personality of the classic Lee/Kirby era.
Despite being pleased to think that this deadly pair will be making their way to the big screen, at last, I am a little disappointed that I am still no closer to seeing The Wrecking Crew in a movie. A gang of super-powered hoodlums in balaclavas and construction tools. Who wouldn't like to see that?
