According to a recent press release, Alcon Entertainment’s much-anticipated sequel to Blade Runner will reunite Ridley Scott with original scribe Hampton Fancher.

Scott, who has been developing the story whilst prepping Prometheus for release, has yet to reveal any plot details other than ‘the new story will take place some years after the first film concluded’.

Although it has already been confirmed that Harrison Ford will not be returning for the new Blade Runner project, there has been no news regarding casting. Scott has suggested, though, that the new film may have a female protagonist.

The press release also states that Blade Runner was always intended to be part of a series of films based on Philip K Dick’s novel ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’, however the project never advanced due to Scott’s other commitments.

If Scott and Fancher are able to carry over the tone of their 1982 classic to the sequel, the long overdue expansion of the Blade Runner universe will surely be cause for excitement amongst fans of the original sci-fi masterpiece.

After graduating in 2010, Steph worked as an intern at Raindance (Brussels) and Rise Films, and, predictably, had a job working at a dingy DVD rental store. She also volunteered at various film festivals, enjoying all sorts of filmy goodness ranging from the excitement and glamour of the red carpet to anarchic, toilet-paper laden horror all-nighters. She is currently a working in TV production and admits she spends an unhealthy amount of her free time watching and writing about films.
