Is October The Month Of The Master?

With eight Academy Award nominations (and two wins) for his most recent effort, There Will be Blood, one would expect Paul Thomas Anderson to have little to no trouble securing studio money for his subsequent work. Indeed, when word got out in 2009 that he was working on his next project, The Master, it would have been hard to believe that 2012 would roll in with still no release date confirmed.

Anderson's appeals for financial backing continued in vain until February 2011, when finally billionaire heiress Megan Ellison agreed to make the necessary investment. Shooting was only able to commence in June 2011, but since this point the production has made every effort to make up for lost time. A promotional poster emerged in November and now Ellison has left cinephiles on tenterhooks with an enticing piece of Twitter teasing.

In response to an Anderson fansite, Ellison tweeted: "I know you guys are waiting on a release date for 'The Master', and it's still a bit early, but I'd keep my eyes on October." With releasing duties in the hands of The Weinstein Company, no official confirmation has been made on The Master's Autumnal arrival, but Ellison's micro-blogging comments are a pretty big hint.
