Machete Kills to Shoot Soon

Machete Kills, the sequel to Robert Rodriguez' delightfully sleazy and bloody action epic Machete, is apparently set to commence shooting this April. This is quite wonderful news, as that first film, itself based on the fake trailer Rodriguez made for the Grindhouse project (he also helmed the Planet Terror movie alongside Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof sleaze-fest for the project, which also featured fake trailers from Edgar Wright, Eli Roth and Rob Zombie), was a near-masterpiece of tasteless and exploitative fun in the vein of all of those notoriously trashy 70s action-and-gore orgies that inspired so many people.

Planned to be the second part in a proposed Machete trilogy, this new film is said to see Danny Trejo's iconic ass-kicker taking on a mission from the government against an arms dealer and an insane cartel leader.

There's no word as to who else will return for this second film, as Trejo himself is still in talks about it, but with a proposed start date of April for the movie to go before the cameras, we can't be far off getting some more names attached.

Calm down lads, I'm sure they'll ask Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez back for another round of noisy, bloody, hilarious and fun violence. Whether they do return is another matter entirely. What does bode well for Machete Kills is that Robert Rodriguez looks set to be taking the directing reins again, either alone or with a collaborator, so we can be assured of one hell of a ride.

With this and Hobo With A Shotgun rising from the Grindhouse trailers as films in their own right, can I put a request in for Edgar Wright to one day make the DON'T movie he did the trailer for? Pretty please? Okay, after the World's End movie. And Ant Man. And... oh, never mind. At least there will be more Machete to enjoy. Here's hoping for more blood, more explosions, and more lingering shots of Danny Trejo being a badass. I'm sure Rodriguez will oblige.
