'The Man Who Fell to Earth' remains one of the most esoteric of the great 70s movies, and one of the least assimilated into the mainstream. While the influence of 'The Godfather' or 'Mean Streets' permeates modern culture to the point of cliché, you won't find many offspring of Roeg's glittering masterpiece. People love it, but unvociferously, perhaps because there's always the anxiety someone's going to ask you, 'Yeah, but what does it all mean?'
